A migraine headache is a form of vascular headache. Migraine headache is caused by vasodilatation (enlargement of blood vessels) that causes the release of chemicals from nerve fibers that coil around the large arteries of the brain. Enlargement of these blood vessels stretches the nerves that coil around them and causes the nerves to release chemicals. The chemicals cause inflammation, pain, and further enlargement of the artery. A migraine is a very painful type of headache. People who get migraines often describe the pain as pulsing or throbbing in one area of the head. During migraines, people are very sensitive to light and sound. They may also become nauseated and vomit.
Migraine is three times more common in women than in men. Some people can tell when they are about to have a migraine because they see flashing lights or zigzag lines or they temporarily lose their vision


Many things can trigger a migraine. These include
• Certain foods (common foods including chocolate, cheese, alcohol, and caffeine)
• Skipping meals or fasting
• Hormonal changes (many women experience migraines during there menstrual cycle, menopause or pregnancy)

• Fatigue

Symptoms:
Pain on one side of the head
Migraine headaches have a certain pattern: Normally, the pain is on only one side of the head and often starts from behind the eye. The migraine attack is concentrated on the left side on once occasion and on another you have a headache on the right side.
A short period of depression, irritability and loss of appetite
Migraine headaches also are sometimes preceded loss of appetite and irritability. Migraine attacks may occur every day in some people or may occur with a weeks gap or a month or may be over a year. There is no predictable migraine attack cycle that has been established yet.
Pounding pain, nausea, and vomiting
Symptoms of migraines include pounding pain, nausea and vomiting. You can feel the blood pulsating through the affected side of the head.
Numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, or on one side of the face
Migraine pain may be preceded by numbness and weakness or an arm or a leg. The eye may start paining or one side of the face gets numb prior to a migraine headache. In some cases the entire face and tongue may get numb making the speech slurry. Digestive problems are experienced sometimes as the headache develops.
Common Migraine (without aura) symptoms
Irritability, laziness, stiff neck, yawning are signs of common migraine (migraine without aura). Confused thinking, weakness, difficulty in concentrating are some other signs.

Tips to prevent
• Eat a healthy, balanced diet and do not skip meals.
• Exercise regularly. Exercise can help to reduce tension and stress and lower the chances of migraines. Pick an exercise that suits you and if strenuous physical activity is a trigger, then choose something gentle such as yoga, walking, or Pilates.
• Try stick to a regular sleep pattern, and ensure that you get enough sleep each night.
• Keep a migraine journal to help identify migraine triggers. Include all the foods, activities or anything else you did that day. Once you know your triggers then you can do your best to avoid them.
• Learn to relax. Practice relaxation techniques and deep breathing to help you manage stress and tension.
• If you feel a migraine coming on find a quiet and dark room and lay down with a cold compress on your forehead.
• Avoid tobacco smoke and limit your caffeine intake whenever possible .
• If you are a woman suffering from regular migraines, it may be useful to limit your estrogen intake. Estrogen can be found in many birth control and hormone replacement therapies, so you may need to discuss alternatives with your doctor.

• Irregularities of diet and excessive exertion must be avoided.
• The diet should have low content of fats and oils.
• Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, and sour or citrus fruits.

• intake of desi ghee jalebi with milk empty stomach in the morning.

• Eating Jaggery (Gur) Mixed with pure Ghee, (Ghee prepared from cow milk) in the empty stomach for 5 days to helps to cure Migraine.
• Eating Goose berries (Amla) with Salt gives relief from Migrain.
• A few drops of Ghee prepared from cow milk put in the nostrils ( If you are having left side pain put in the right nostril & vice verse) for few months helps to get permanent relief from Migraine.
• Drinking a spoon of Basil (Tulsi) juice mixed with Honey helps to get relief from Migraine.
• Chewing some black pepper (kali mirch) with pure Ghee (Ghee prepared from cow milk) helps to get relief from Migraine.
• putting few drops of Almond (Badam) oil in the nostrils for some days helps to get permanent relief from migraine.
• Drink plenty of water to stay well hydrated throughout the day. Dehydration is main cause behind having headaches of any kind.
• Divide your meal and have four to five small meals instead of two or three big meals. This way your digestive system will remain well in function and you will not have any digestive disorders.
• Migraine treatment using Lemon Crust
Lemon crusts can cure migraine. Grind lemon crust and apply as a paste on the forehead. Migraine cures using this remedy has been found very effective and long lasting by many.
